4 Things to Remember When Growing a Business

Ed Ellsasser is PGI’s President, an avid community leader, and accomplished business influencer. Ed has made an impact on the community and the team at PGI. Here are 4 things Ed wants you to remember when growing a business:

1. Find a mentor – As your business grows you need someone to bounce ideas off of that has been there before. Successful people are willing to help — you just need to ask!

2. Hire qualified talent – It never works out if you try to go the more cost-effective route in hiring by going with someone less qualified. Qualified people can handle a larger workload and they don’t strain the other staff members because there are no mistakes to clean up.

3. Hire slow – Make sure people fit in your culture and are on board with your core values before you hire them. Take the time to really dive in to be sure they are a fit. Get multiple sets of eyes on them and ask questions about their personal core values. You spend a lot of your time with your coworkers so you want to be sure people fit in with your team in order to do great things.

4. Fire fast – You know deep down when someone isn’t working out. Don’t wait for the perfect time, don’t drag it out. This only hurts the organization. Everyone is picking up their extra workload and taking time correcting their mistakes. No one likes to fire anyone but the work will get done and when you get the right person for the position, it’s like a weight is lifted off the organization.
