Mark your calendars — November 5 is Daylight Savings and we turn our clocks back 1 hour. Remember, when you change your clocks, change your smoke detector batteries.

We don’t think much about smoke alarm batteries, but check out these stats:

  • 3 out of 5 home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties without properly working smoke alarms
  • The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms
  • In 2016, almost 3,000 people lost their lives in structure fires and 60% of those deaths occurred in homes without smoke alarms

The bottom line is that smoke detectors save lives! To ensure you have smoke alarms properly located in your home see: http://electrical.about.com/od/electricalsafety/a/smoke-detector.htm
